Simple off grid Cabin that anyone can build & afford

In this video my wife Brooke and I build a very simple, very affordable cabin. With a simple single pitch roof and only 2 windows. While I was filming this building project so was Brooke. You can check out her first video featuring this cabin by clicking the link below. I'll see you on part 2

Love this. I have my father's hammer. The head fell off the handle, and he just nailed a nail into the top and bent it over. Then it got left out in the rain a few times, so the head was all rusty. I cleaned up the head, but I didn't replace the handle. No sir, it still has that nail holding it on, crooked as it is. I use it all the time for things I don't need a great hammer for.

Sure. but you also need to own land. i feel like all these offgrid videos are not informing about, you can't just go out to the woods and build yourself a homestead or a cabin. you need to OWN the land.

@ Celtic sky woman I live in Texas but you can do the tax seized in any state they all have them but the southern states are selling out fast from many rushing to get out of cities there are still some available just do your do diligence if you know the state you want get a print out to the counties in that state and start calling here in Texas we have just a couple of law firms that deal with tax seizure some states let each county deal with it themselves good luck happy hunting be tenacious for your happiness

hey that's cool but how did you make sure your first four floor joists were square? How did you make sure your foundation stones were square to your starting corner? thx. I like how you put the siding on before raising the wall, that seems like a cool idea.

In our D.N.A.. it kills me people think everything needs to be learned and certified. City kids take a drivers Ed class in Ugh School and a farm kid at ten can drive a half million dollar combine. It's so pathetic. I did concrete too. Just like seeing what you did, thanks for sharing.b

It all looks great to me except for the foundation. Why not just concrete some posts in? Protects you more from sinking ground movement and lifting from strong winds.

You 2 make it look simple. I was a Union painter 35 years and I believe your the most intelligent, talented, knowledgeable, practical, common sense, experienced, disciplined, 2 person crews I’ve ever seen. Your work is a collage of brilliant and ingenious building ideas. Your knowledge of building material choices, the details, your planning from the simplest to the most challenging designs combinations and assembly are truly beyond average and ingenious. Watching you two turn air into a 100s of years of comfort is astounding. When you say anyone can build? Man and Woman unless I had several very talented and ambitious friends helping me, you might as well expect as much as your dog is getting done on site from me. To achieve a project you two make look simple again, just the way you cut, ax, and sister join the 2x8? to the footing supports and fit the 8x8s is a talent few I’ve met in my 70 years have. Thanks for a excellent instructional video professors.

Question: Aren’t you concerned about potential wood rot considering the concrete and 4X4s are so close to the ground? Also, if the community has any thoughts, please chime in! Thank you for your time.

@J P No one owns land. A person cannot own land. You pay a usage fee in the form of taxes that (allegedly) goes to everyone else (in the form of services) for you getting exclusive access to that shared resource.

never mind the fact that if you want to build this cabin, you will need to get a permit even if it's in you own land, and then boom now you magically pay more money for the land. While I agree with some taxes (for roads etc), adding taxes to your property because you decided to build something in it makes no sense to me.
